Amy South

Postpartum Doula

I'm a mom to four, spouse to a military man, and lover of Jesus. We live in a small town in Eastern NC, where we homeschool, hang with friends, drive a long way to get anywhere, and frequent the one good Mexican restaurant in town. Most of the time you can find me with anywhere from 1-4 children and probably

heading to the grocery store.

About Amy

You are worth being cared for. You deserve support.

You are why I became a Postpartum Doula.

There is so much to being a Postpartum Doula, but the one aspect that initally drew me in was the support. It's true what they say, "babies don' t come with manuals".

Being able to lovingly come beside you and help you navigate this massive life change, while also nurturing and supporting each member of the family, is so special to me. Helping parents tap into their natural roles and see them shine (whether its 1st, 2nd, or 5th baby) is truly an honor.

Our culture is always in a hurry- always ready to move on to the next part.

I challenge this by knowing it is best that your family slowly adjusts into your new roles and take each day one at a time.

A postpartum doula is a helper to the whole family after a new baby arrives. It doesn't matter if it's your 1st or 5th baby, each one brings a new adventure and an adjustment to your life which deserves a supported transition.

The postpartum doula enters the family's home shortly after the birth of the baby and provides immediate support to all family members through hands on care and educational guidance. With knowledge and nonjudgemental help I will come alongside you while you gain confidence with your newborn. Instead of rushing through this profound experience, I will advocate for slowness and rest so you can take this time to recover and bond.

My ultimate goal is to "work myself out" of a job. I have succeeded when you no longer need me!

What is a Postpartum Doula?

  • Let the new mom rest and recover and focus on bonding with her newborn.
  • Show the new dad with ways to bond with his newborn and support his wife.
  • Support any other family members.
  • Provide recommendations to outside providers if needed (Lactation, Chiropractor, Pediatrician, etc).
  • Share knowledge of typical postpartum recovery needs, mentally and physically.
  • Attend postpartum or newborn doctor visits as a support.

During Postpartum Visits

This is not an exhaustive list, but the most basic things included with my support as well as things I have done for past clients. Each family's priorities will be different so my service is customized to best meet your expectations and needs.
